Making It Better Mentor Training |

Are you Role Model
material? Do you want to make a difference
in the lives of LGBTQ (Gay, Lesbian,
Bisexual, Transgender or Questioning) youth?
SunServe’s Making It Better Project is designed to reach LGBTQ youth
through Broward Schools GSA clubs. The
presence of mentors in the clubs will assist
in the effort to minimize risk, raise
awareness and inform.
A GSA Gay-Straight Alliance is a student-run
club in a high school or middle school that
brings together LGBTQ and straight students
to support each other and provide a safe place.
The clubs allow students to socialize and
create a platform for activism to eliminate
homophobia and transphobia, and transform the
school climate to one of acceptance.
Our next training is Saturday, February 25,
2012. This training also will equip
volunteers to assist in our youth drop in
center, youth groups or educational
opportunities. Call Mandi Hawke at
954-764-5150 or email
mhawke@sunserve.org to get more
information and to enroll.
Participation requires a Level 2
Background Screening and a full day of
training. |

GIVE YOUR OLD LAPTOP NEW LIFE!
We are looking for new or used
laptops for an exciting new after
school drop in program for LGBTQ
youth. We are creating a safe and
supportive environment for our
youth, especially kids who are at
risk for poor school performance or
from high stress families and afraid
or bullied. It's a place where kids
can study, connect with other LGBTQ
youth and be supported by SunServe.
