This program provides a full range of out-patient mental health services including individual, family, youth, and group therapy. Some clients will meet with an In-House Therapist on-site at a SunServe office. Others may be referred to private therapists in the community who work closely with SunServe to make up our Therapist Collective. These include offices in various locations in Broward, Dade, or Palm Beach Counties. Services provided on site are typically by Florida registered mental health interns and/or volunteer licensed clinicians.

SunServe also offers peer counseling and support services. These services include support and/or prevention groups targeting the special needs of LGBTQ persons. Since 2003, SunServe has grown a solid and respected Counseling Program to meet the needs of the LGBTQ community here in Broward County. Our thriving Therapist Collective provides therapy to hundreds of members of the local LGBTQ community each year. The frequency and length of sessions are determined by the client and the therapist. Clients and therapist contract for an initial number of sessions and evaluate their progress at regular intervals.

The therapists who are listed on this site are licensed mental health professionals who are collaborating to assist SunServe in providing affordable counseling to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community in South Florida. These therapists have experience treating clients who are either gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, and they are offering services as independent mental health clinicians in their own practices. You may want to consider contacting them to see how they can help you meet your needs. Or you may want to call our Intake Coordinator (954.764.5150 ext 110) who can assist you in locating a therapist by listening to your unique requirements and answering your questions about how to interview a potential therapist.

The use of our directory, or of information received during an inquiry to locate a therapist, however, is voluntary. In no event shall SunServe be liable for the voluntary selection of any therapist in this Collective, or for the services provided by any of the therapists in the collective. If and when you do call any of these clinicians, please let them know that you learned about them from this website. Fees are negotiated with each therapist. Some may have special arrangements.

If you are a therapist who works with the LGBTQ community and are interested in finding out more about becoming a Collective member please email information about yourself and your practice (including current Curriculum Vita) to:

Fees for counseling and psychotherapy services offered on-site are determined on a sliding scale. We do not turn anyone away, and our sliding scale accommodates a wide income range including persons with no income at all. Clients who are in need of services that we cannot provide will receive our assistance in accessing those services in the community. SunServe is a Medicare and Medicaid provider, and will see clients with these insurances. Clients who have private insurance benefits, or the means to pay in full or nearly full the fees customarily charged for therapy, will most often be referred to the therapists in our Therapist Collective. In those instances, fees are determined by the therapist and the client.

There are no fixed fees for most support groups. We do encourage group members to give donations for their participation in these groups. These donations help pay for therapy provided to clients without income. A fee is sometimes charged for groups that have a fixed agenda and psycho-educational format. We call these "therapy groups." No one is turned away because of inability to pay that fee.
The James Lopresti Scholarship Fund grants financial support to individuals from the community who cannot afford to access mental health services.
