Hey guys!

What's up? We're the Broward County LGBTQS (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning and Straight Ally) Youth Group. Boy, that was a mouthful!

You're probably seeing this site after picking up one of our cool flyers, or visiting a recent event, right? That's great! We are a youth group that promotes a safe environment where everyone respects everyone, and there is no harassment, bullying or violence. We have a group for youth aged 13-17, and 18-21! Even though our group has professional adult supervision, we're almost 100% for youth, by youth. We facilitate meetings, and make sure they are really fun and cool for everyone.

Still not convinced? Check us out any Tuesday evening at 7 – 9 pm. We meet on the campus of the Sunshine Cathedral MCC at 1480 SW 9^th Ave., Ft. Lauderdale – go to the second floor and look for our sign on the “green door.” Currently, we're the only LGBTQS hangout in the county — free from the typical downfalls to those other youth hangouts you may hear about.

COME TO THE 2008 VALUING OUR FAMILIES DAY OF LEARNING AND FUN

SATURDAY, MARCH 29, 10 AM – 6:00 PM

So, you might ask, what is this all about?

We have this day for gay and lesbian families every year. Gay and lesbian adults have workshops all day on how to be better parents, and things like that. It’s kind of cool to hang out with them. We don’t get the chance to see gay and lesbian adults as parents any place like this.

That would be great for a while, But a whole day with gay and lesbian adults isn’t all that much fun. What else is happening?

Well, we have some cool workshops going on all day for teens. We bring teens with gay and lesbian parents into our group as well as GLBTQ teens (the whole alphabet). We talk about things that matter to us and learn about each other’s coming out…or staying in the closet; some have to… But we help each other with all that. And we have some exercises led by a youth advocate from Miami schools who runs a fantastic youth group in her high school. She knows how to help us talk to each other and have fun at the same time! You are going to just love her!!!

Is that it? Just talk all day?

No. There’s more. We have a special session in the late afternoon where we learn all about what is going on in Florida politics, like what this “marriage amendment” is all about, you know, the one that is telling us we are not equal! We need to know what they are doing about our future! That happens in a meeting where all the gay parents and the kids are all together. No one does anything like it anywhere else. You have to be there to see how cool it really is!!!

And on top of it all, we end the day with a picnic, lots of the kinds of stuff we like to eat. There will be games of skill…Show them how good you are at shooting hoops or throwing darts or singing karaoke…..or….well you get the idea - a carnival where all the families are GAY!!!!

And our YOUTH GROUP is going to have a special booth at the Carnival.
