R U a teen (13-17) who is: .…gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning? ….a friend of a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning teen? .…wondering whether you are gay, lesbian, bi or trans? .…not sure whether you’re the gender everyone else thinks you are? ….finding it very hard to talk with anyone about any of this? ….having trouble at school, church or temple because of any of this? ….having trouble at home because of any of this? AND would like to…. ....hang out with other kids who have the same questions and experiences? ....have a safe place to go where you can be yourself? ....have a place to go and not be hassled by people who just don't get it? THEN SUNCENTRAL IS FOR YOU! because SunCentral is.... ....a drop-in center on Monday afternoons from 3-5 ....a rap group where the teens in the group decide the topics to talk about ....a series of fun and creative groups for you to learn about yourself and others ....a place to meet adults who will accept you and help you put it all together Drop In Center Any 13-17 year old may come to the drop-in center to meet with adolescents who are members of the rap group and SunServe staff members or volunteers assigned to the drop-in center. During this period of time teens can learn about what happens in the rap group and decide whether they want to join. Joining is a simple process involving a brief interview with a staff member who helps the teen identify at least one personal goal for admittance into the group. Goals may include such matters as gaining assistance, education and support, communication skill building, affiliation, self- understanding and acceptance or coming out to others.
