Life can be beautiful—of course, it’s not always easy.
When you need help, reaching out is the first step. I would be honored to help you take the next step.
Because when you’re depressed or anxious, facing relationship problems or suffering after a breakup, or struggling with gender confusion or dysphoria, speaking with an experienced, compassionate, nonjudgmental therapist can be enormously beneficial.
I’m a Psychotherapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Couples and Family Counselor, Board-Certified Transgender Care Therapist, Board-Certified Sex Therapist and Hypnotherapist in Boca Raton who works with clients from Palm Beach County and throughout South Florida.
I began my professional career as a magazine editor and writer in 1988, and found I most enjoyed writing about relationships, sexuality, gender and mental health. So while working as a journalist, in 2005 I earned my master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Barry University in Miami. I am currently a Ph.D. candidate with the International Institute of Clinical Sexology in Miami.
It’s an honor and a privilege to see clients of all genders and sexual orientations, and I strive to provide a safe, warm and comfortable space in which to talk (which occasionally might include a visit by my 3-pound therapy dog, Gigi). I practice therapy from a strengths-based perspective and utilize an integrative approach with modalities such as solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, life coaching and hypnotherapy.
I enjoy working with transgender clients of all ages (along with family members or spouses when appropriate), and am a Board-Certified Transgender Care Therapist through the International Transgender Certification Association (ITCA) and a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). I also provide letters for hormone replacement therapy and SRS surgery, and co-host a monthly transgender support group in Boca Raton (please inquire for details).

I accept cash, checks and credit cards and will work on a sliding scale based on need. I also accept insurance, including Medicare; Aetna; Cigna; Humana; many EAPs; Multiplan, including PHCS, PHCS-Savility; Value Options; Blue Cross Blue Shield (out-of-network provider only); MHNet, including Coventry and Vista; NPPN & Plan Care; American Behavioral Health; Concordia Behavioral Health and Integral Quality Care. New companies are added frequently.

I offer personalized counseling services and therapy to individuals who are struggling with change. Many, for example, are learning to adjust to a life free of addiction. Others are dealing with anxiety, depression, or aging. Some people are exploring their gender identity. My aim is to provide a safe, nurturing, and non-judgmental space to work through your problems.
For substance use disorders I might employ a treatment approach which combines elements of SMART® Recovery, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). I am certified as a SMART Recovery facilitator and find this approach offers clients the opportunity to take control of their addictive behaviors.
If you're thinking about therapy I want you to know that I don't believe in guilt trips; I believe in you and your capacity to change.

Within each of us, there's a strong, wise presence - guiding us toward our best decisions and actions, taking care of and looking out for ourselves.
Along our journey through life, our inner strength and wisdom can get derailed. We may reject it . . . forget it exists. Why?
Some of us have been abused, abandoned, neglected, scapegoated - perhaps in childhood - not treated as any child, person, living being deserves. So we draw negative conclusions about ourselves - we believe we're flawed, less-than, no good. We may even believe we deserve mistreatment.
Some of us struggle with addictions or compulsive behaviors. Shame, discouragement, hopelessness dictate our negative self-perceptions.
Some of us may have been told or heard the message that we need to do or be certain things to be worthy of approval and love. We're faced with other people's ideas for what's best for us - or what we think their ideas for us may be.
Those persisting ideas . . . so wrong! Our inner strength and wisdom reminds us, when we allow. And if you're reading these words, perhaps you're in touch with the strong and wise part of you - perhaps more than you might've consciously considered.
Perhaps you're looking to explore and understand your struggles and challenges - looking for solutions, seeking to discover new ways of living and thriving.
I am dedicated to guiding, supporting, and providing structure for your journey of growth, healing, and empowerment, as you discover new ways for the strong, wise, compassionate person within you to emerge - and flourish!

Paola Andrea Rodriguez

In the past 15 years of my career as a psychotherapist, I have been granted the opportunity to work in a variety of settings. I have received certified training in multiple modes of therapy including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement, couples counseling, sex therapy and group therapies. My experience has included work with children and adults with a wide range of mental health issues.

As a bilingual, bicultural therapist, I enjoy working with people of diverse ethnic backgrounds, cultures, gender, and sexual orientations. I provide individual, couple, and group therapy to adults. My approach to therapy is founded on the belief that people can change or modify aspects of their life that no longer accurately represent who they are or how they want to be perceived by others. I work with each individual to modify thinking patterns to maintain positive self-value over the course of their lives despite of what kind of challenges face them.

I aim to create a safe space for positive and long lasting change for each individual. I believe in the power of choice, and focus on strengthening the willingness to improve and succeed. I am passionate about my work and the approaches that I use; because I have applied them myself, to overcome life’s natural struggles. I believe that unfortunate events and situations are inevitable; however, it is how we choose to view situations that will determine how we adapt. Mistakes are part of life, and they are not to be taken as a sign of self-defeat. Instead, they can be viewed as experiences from which we learn and grow. I teach the art of self-compassion, and provide individuals with tools to practice acceptance, I believe in empowerment, the infinite power of self-help and solution focused therapy. I believe in the ability to heal, resolve issues and move forward

“Your life is a sacred journey. And it is about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformation, continuously expanding your vision of what’s possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly and deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous challenges at every step along the way. You are on the path.. exactly where you are meant to be right now.. And from here you can only go forward, shaping your life story into magnificent tale of triumph, of healing, of courage, of beauty, of wisdom, of power, of dignity, and of love.”

Paola obtained her CBT certification at Boston University school of social work in 2013, and attended a practicum at the Albert Ellis institute in NYC to specialize in REBT one year after. She has also conducted trainings and workshops focusing on couples treatment, sex and sexuality, and working with the transgender community. Her latest endeavor which began in September of 2014 is becoming a certified sex therapist. She is currently a member of  AASECT (American Association of sexuality educators, counselors and therapist) and is currently attending a Sex therapy Postgraduate training program which takes place in Columbia University in New York City.

Paul C. Briggs is both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Massage Therapist.  He is a seasoned clinician in emergency care and wellness healthcare, working in agency, hospital and private practice settings.  His professional career spans over 30 years, combining multiple career paths in industry, mental and physical health, and massage and bodywork. During those years, he has remained involved within the LGBTQ community as an activist, an advocate and a therapist.  He currently works with US Veterans and their families, including Veterans who identify as Transgender.  With a focus on wellness, he works with people living with HIV, with pain, with trauma, with substance abuse, with depression or anxiety; and with those people who simply want to experience relaxation, stress reduction, growth, healing, transition or discovery in their lives.  Paul has also completed Advanced level training in Somatic Experiencing®.  Somatic Experiencing® is a gentle way of "titrating" experience, and employs awareness of body sensation to help people "renegotiate" and heal rather than re-live or re-enact trauma.

Paul studied clinical social work at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.  He studied massage therapy at Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center in Miami, Florida.  His work is influenced by several schools of psychotherapy, therapeutic massage and somatic practices (bodywork), all of which help people to understand their bodies, injuries, emotional lives, relationships, illnesses and personal dynamics as part of their healing process.

I am originally from Boston, MA where I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Boston University. I then obtained a Masters in Public and Health Administration from Suffolk University.  Initially I began my career by managing non-profit agencies. While the Executive Director of an agency providing advocacy and services for victims of domestic violence, I was diagnosed with a chronic illnesss. It became increasingly clear that I needed to find a career that integrated all the challanges I was facing from living with an illness. I decided to return to obtain my Masters in Social Work at Rhode Island College.
From a clinical perspective I worked at various settings to obtain hands on skills to complement the theories I learned in school. The positions included medical social work, psychiatric social work, hospice bereavement/grief counselor and private psychotherapist.
Throughout my career I identified a passion and interest in working with victimes/survivors of various types of trauma. In order to enhance my clinical knowledge and skills I then went on to receive a post graduate Certificate from Boston University in the Assessment and Treatment of  Trauma. In addition, I studied at the Francine Shapiro EMDR Institute to become qualifed in this approach for treating trauma along with depression, anxiety, phobias and somatic conditions.
I have now been in the Ft lauderdale area in private practice for 6 years.  Although I tend to work primarily from a psychodynamic and humanistic perspective, I also utilize cognitive behavioral therapy along with other theraputic approaches.  I consider my style to be eclectic as I draw from various schools of thought based on the individual client's needs.  I believe that a genuine and trusting therapeutic relationship is essential for effective treatment  allowing us to collaboratively identify goals for change and growth.
My practise is generalist in nature with special focus in the following areas: aging, grief/loss, chonic and terminal illness, trauma and LGBT issues.  I work with individuals, couples and families. In addition, I am an approved supervisor for registered MSW interns and Licensed Therapists.  Incorporating my clinical and management  experience and skills, I am also  available to provide consultation to organizations for staff development, team building and system's issues.
Insurances Accepted:  Medicare and Megellan along with other private insurances as an out of network provider.  Private pay and sliding fees available.
